bridge 2026 brochure
Monday. 13 July 2026

BRIDGE has published its 2026 brochure, "Cooperation between Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe Projects in the fields of smart grid, energy storage, and digitalisation," bringing together the results of projects financed under the EU's two key research and innovation funding programmes.

Over the years, BRIDGE has become an important point of connection between projects working on smart grids, energy storage, and digitalisation. Its strength lies not only in bringing projects together, but in helping ensure that their results do not remain isolated. Through cooperation on data management, regulation, business models, and consumer and citizen engagement, BRIDGE has built practical knowledge on issues central to the energy transition, including interoperability, flexibility, data sharing, market design, user participation, and the conditions needed for innovative solutions to scale.

The 2026 brochure reflects this contribution. It brings together projects financed through Horizon Europe that are addressing some of the most pressing challenges in the transition: integrating distributed energy resources, improving resilience, enabling demand-side flexibility, supporting citizens and communities, and preparing solutions for wider deployment. These projects are not only testing technologies; they are also helping to build understanding of what works in practice, what barriers remain, and what is needed to move from demonstration to implementation.

This practical perspective is especially timely. Across Europe, the focus is increasingly shifting towards delivery, with the Strategic Roadmap for Digitalisation and AI in the Energy Sector expected to provide clear direction and concrete actions for the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in support of the energy system.
